Top o’ the Mornin’ to Ya!
Most of my life I’ve wrestled with the question: what does God require of us? I used to think it was about being “good enough” to get into heaven, even after facing my addiction issues. It wasn’t until a couple in the mountains helped me understand that Christ’s sacrifice covers everything – I don’t have to earn my way in.
Once you understand that believing in Christ’s sacrifice covers all your sins, the question becomes: what now? For me, the answer comes from Micah 6:8, which lays out three simple (but not easy) requirements:
1. Do Justice – Not about courts and lawyers, but simply doing what’s right in all situations. When in doubt, seek counsel from fellow believers.
2. Love Mercy – Start by embracing the mercy Christ showed us, then extend that same mercy to others. Even to those who’ve wronged you – the business that cheated you, the relative who hurt you, or the person who crashed your car.
3. Walk Humbly with God – When we combine doing justice and loving mercy with a humble walk with God, we’re fulfilling what He requires.
While these requirements are simple to understand, they’re challenging to live out daily. But that’s okay – we’re covered by grace, and someday when we’re with Him, it will all be easier.
Be blessed.
